During their training, recruits are deployed back into their communities where they identify issues destabilising their communities, engage local networks and develop partnerships for the healing process.
Throughout their year’s training, each recruit is mentored by NPAT’s professional field workers and by a leading member of the community in which they work. This embedded training allows recruits to decide which primary area of community development work they are best suited to pursue – Educational, Health or Justice services.
The one-year NPAT training course leads to certification as a Restorative Community Worker. The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) provides the certification.
Other training includes specialist skills training such as:
•
Disaster management
•
Trauma management
•
Trauma awareness
•
Containment
•
Resource management
